Department Profile

University College of Science was established as intermediate college in 1922 by Udaipur’s Maharana “Maharana Bhupal Singh Ji”. Later in 1945 it was upgraded to Degree College as "Maharana Bhupal College". In 1962, Maharana Bhupal College now known as University College of Science was merged with the Udaipur University (now Mohanlal Sukhadia University) as a constituent college. Subsequently, five PG departments namely Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology were established in 1964 to provide teaching in co-education mode. The college played pivotal role in starting Computer Science as optional subject in B.Sc. in 1985. UG in Environmental Science, PG in Statistics and PG in Polymer Science started in 1990. In continuation of faculty expansion, the B. Pharm. was started in Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1998. In addition to imparting education in all the science subjects, self-financed BCA, B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Biotechnology are also operational.  With the objective to promote employability many professional programmes like B. Pharm., BCA, M.Sc. Tech (Geology), Polymer Science offering skill enhancement courses are being run at present. More than 3500 students are currently enrolled in this college.

The college has its own girl’s hostel (Gargi Hostel) with a capacity of 200 students. It has a well-furnished heritage library with more than one lac books and magazines. Along with academic activities the college has National Cadet Corps units of Army, Navy and Air Force and five units of National Service Scheme. The students of the College have acquired remarkable position in sports activities such as Hockey, Cricket, Chess etc.   

Academic community of the college is dedicated to the holistic education of future leaders, stimulating critical and creative thinking and promoting multi-disciplinary learning, research and publication. The college has been endowed with rich intellectual resources marking their presence at national and international level.
